Mr. Jacobs' exciting visual presentation will examine the more than 1,000 resorts and hotels that dotted New York’s Catskill mountains and provided relaxation, dancing, laughs and sometimes love. Alejandra Sorto, Campaign Strategist for the ACLU of NJ, will speak on “The Power of Intersectionality,” reaching out to like-minded individuals to build a movement to secure abortion rights for all. The program is co-hosted by THRIVE NJ and we will recognize the volunteer group of abortion escorts for its critical work at Bergen County's two clinics. The program is made possible by a grant from a funding collaborative among Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, South Jersey Community Foundation, and The Women’s Centers. NCJW BCS TO RECEIVE "WOMEN OF WISDOM" AWARD FROM TIFF

TIFF, the Teaneck International Film Festival, our small-town local film festival, draws over 3,000 film goers each year. The films that are shown foster appreciation of differences and encouragement of efforts to make the world a better place.

This year, before the film presentation our Co-Presidents will accept the coveted WOW award (Women of Wisdom) in honor of our organization's Activism/Change-Making efforts over the past 100 years. The same evening NCJW BCS is co-sponsoring the film Bella, the story of Bella Abzug. The talk-back will be led by former State Senator and NCJW BCS Centennial Honorary Chair Loretta Weinberg. Please join us as we go back in time to the Prohibition Era of secret Speakeasys, flappers, gangsters, and entertainment of the time period. Enjoy a delicious dinner, sundae dessert bar, and an open bar. Come dressed as a flapper, a gangster or other apparel of the time period (not mandatory). After the resounding success of nine prior seasons, we are inviting you to join us for our tenth season of the outstanding New Jersey Symphony and help NCJW BCS at the same time. It’s an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon with other members and friends and also support programs for people in need. There are six performances at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark on Thursday afternoons. Transportation by motor coach is included in the price for all six concerts. Bus will leave from Temple Emeth in Teaneck at 12:30 pm and return by 4:45 pm. Abraham Foxman, world-renowned leader in the fight against antisemitism, bigotry and discrimination, will speak on “Confronting Antisemitism in Today’s World.” Mr. Foxman is National Director Emeritus of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), from which he retired after 50 years with the organization, including serving as National Director for 28 years. Upon retirement, he served as Vice Chairman of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City. He is the author of several books and co-authored Viral Hate: Containing Its Spread on the Internet. A Holocaust survivor, Mr. Foxman has been a dedicated member of the President’s United States Holocaust Memorial Council. To learn more, click here. Free for members, $15.00 for non-members.

Join us for a tour of Jewish Argentina, the sixth largest Jewish community in the world. Argentina has always been a refuge for those who fled from the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal, the pogroms in Russia, and the Holocaust in Europe. What brought the Jews to Argentina in particular? What is antisemitism like in the country where Adolf Eichmann and other Nazis hid for years? Claudia Hercman, an Argentinian tour guide and translator, will share the answers to these and other questions and teach us about the political, economic and social crises Argentina has gone through. Cost is $18 for one session, February 2 or February 16, and $30 for both if registered in advance.

COMMUNITY SERVICES FAIR

After the Fair, join us in our 7th year of packing child-friendly snack packs, which will be distributed through the Center for Food Action to Bergen County school children on Friday afternoons, to provide nutrition on weekends. Our goal this year is to pack 1,000 bags containing healthy snacks of fruit, cereal, drinks and other wholesome, appealing foods.
