TRIP TO LOWER EAST SIDE NOURISHED OUR SOULS AND OUR BODIES

What a great day! The weather was beautiful as fifty-one NCJW BCS members visited the Lower East Side. The highlight of the day was a visit to the Eldridge Street Museum and Synagogue, a magnificently restored edifice that serves as a cultural center for the community. We heard a wonderful presentation about the synagogue, its restoration, the Lower East Side and the history and role of women in this community.

Our lunch at the famous Katz’s delicatessen was a treat and gastronomic experience. The day also included a visit to the Angel Orensanz Center, the site of one of the earliest Synagogues in the US, built in Gothic style, modeled after the Sistine Chapel.

The day ended with individual shopping for bialys, knishes and other Jewish delights.
