TRIP TO BROOKLYN
On November 3rd, 49 NCJW BCS members journeyed to Brooklyn for an exciting, informative tour of upper Brooklyn.
We picked up our tour guide, Art Zuckerman, on 42nd Street and traveled through lower Manhattan. He described the area, its gentrification and architecture and continued his lively patter as we crossed the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn. We walked the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, observing the upscale neighborhood and the view across the river of Manhattan and environs. We then visited the Pratt University Sculpture Park, a collection of over 65 outdoor modern sculptures of well-known and emerging artists.
Lunch was at Juniors, a Brooklyn landmark, known for its cheesecake, which we all “noshed” on.
A tour of some famous neighborhoods followed, with Art’s narration stirring up memories of those members who grew up or lived in Crown Heights, Park Slope, Clinton Hill and Ft. Green. We drove past Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza and the Barclay Center and viewed the mansions and beautiful brownstones as we learned the history and cultural make-up of each area.
A stop at DUMBO (down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass) to see the revived area and the lovely restored carousel, followed by a visit to Bldg 92, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Museum, ended a glorious day.
