‘RENAISSANCE WOMAN’ FASCINATED NCJW MEMBERS AT MAY MEETING

Eugenia plays flute (3)Eugenia Zukerman lived up to her reputation as a ‘Renaissance Woman’ when she entertained a large audience of NCJW members and friends at the May 19 General Meeting at Temple Emeth in Teaneck. Miss Zukerman, a well-known flutist, maintains an international concert calendar, while pursuing a multi-faceted career that includes distinguished work as an arts administrator, author, educator, internet video blogger, and journalist.

Starting off with two delightful flute solos of Chinese and Native American origins, she went on to talk about her life with her first husband, renowned violinist Pinchas Zukerman and their continued friendship and love of their shared children. She spoke warmly about her happy musical collaborations with such superstars as Segovia, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax, and the celebrity television interviews she conducted for NBC. She also shared with the audience the challenges she faced battling a very rare lung disease which necessitated taking the prescription drug Prednisone. Managing its devastating side-effects resulted in the publication of a book, “Coping with Prednisone,” co-authored with her sister, Harvard physician Julie Ingelfinger.

Miss Zukerman was delighted to announce that she is the new music director of Clarion Concerts in Columbia County, N.Y., where she shares a country home with her third husband.

A lively Q&A ensued, which included the topic of lack of funding for the arts and for arts education in schools.
