NCJW WELCOMES RIKKI KLIEMAN AT SEPTEMBER GENERAL MEETING

Rikki Klieman, television anchor, legal analyst, trial attorney, actor and best-selling author was the guest speaker at the NCJW General Meeting on September 16 at Temple Emeth. Accompanied by a power point presentation, Rikki gave a fascinating talk on the role of the press now and in years gone-by. Reminding us of how when Walter Cronkite said, “And that’s the way it is,” it really WAS, she went on to discuss the explosion of cable networks and the current role of TV anchors and commentators to act as news analysts, giving their own political slant to items in the news. In her question and answer period, she touched on her recent trip to Israel as the wife of Bill Bratton, NYC Police Commissioner.

Prior to the presentation, a business meeting was conducted by Co-President Gladys Laden. Rikki was introduced by a new member of the Program Committee, Elizabeth Halverstam. A most enthusiastic crowd of about 200 people attended. On their way into the meeting, members and guests stopped by tables promoting Bergen County Section community services (including Thrift Shop) and advocacy issues so they could become more familiar with the section’s activities and sign up to volunteer.
