NCJW BERGEN COUNTY SECTION REMEMBERS NEWTOWN SCHOOL SHOOTING VICTIMS

Reflecting everyone’s heart-felt emotions, the weather was dark and chilling on a Sunday evening, December 14, 2014, when approximately 75 gun violence prevention activists, including members of NCJW Bergen County Section, the Bergen Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, several speakers and the general public, gathered around lighted candles under the portico of Temple Emeth in Teaneck in remembrance of this tragic massacre two years ago.

As Ann Levenstein, Co-President of NCJW Bergen County Section noted “Yes, it was all very moving — especially because the speakers emoted with such passion.” Ann continued, “To enhance the mood, Ron Schwartz of the Bergen Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and the entire audience sang ‘We Shall Overcome’ and ‘This Little Light of Mine’.”

We thank all those who participated, especially speakers Ed Gross, State Senator Loretta Weinberg, Teaneck Mayor Lizette Parker, Ethical Culture Leader Joe Chuman and Rabbi Steven Sirbu who all fervently addressed the need to find ways to curb the use of guns. We also are grateful to Temple Emeth for hosting the memorial and to The Record for their excellent coverage of the event. To read the article, click on:
