MEMBERS ENLIGHTENED ON HACKENSACK RIVER ECO-CRUISE

On July 23 twenty-six members of NCJW BCS gathered at Laurel Hill County Park and boarded the two new pontoon boats of the Hackensack Riverkeeper, the citizen steward for this watershed.

During this wonderful 2 1/2 hour eco-cruise of the Hackensack River and the Meadowlands, we heard an informative narration by Captain Bill Sheehan and Captain Hugh Carola, who enlightened us about the history, ecology and geo-political issues in the area.  As we peered through our binoculars, we viewed wildlife, turtles, shorebirds, waterfowl and a rare bald eagle and its nest.  It was a beautiful sunny day as we sailed through the marshes of the Meadowlands.
