FRICK MUSEUM TRIP

Portrait of Cardinal Guido Bentivoglio

SOLD OUT!

A TRIP TO VIEW THE GLORIOUS FRICK MUSEUM COLLECTION
“VAN DYCK: THE ANATOMY OF PORTRAITURE”
TUESDAY, MARCH 29, 2016

Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. from Temple Emeth in Teaneck.
The Frick Collection is housed in the beautiful mansion built in 1913-14 for his family by Henry Clay Frick, a prominent industrialist (who has been characterized as one of the period’s “Robber Barons.”). Clay had amassed a large collection of masterpiece art, porcelains, and furniture which was willed, with the home, to become a museum. It has subsequently been enlarged and the collection added to, but maintains a sense of intimacy and a hallmark of a “time gone by.” The exhibit we are highlighting is unique. Featuring 100 works, this will be the first show in the United States in 25 years of this 17th Century painter, Anthony Van Dyck. He is considered one of the most celebrated and influential portraitists of all time.

The curators are featuring the Collection’s own Van Dycks as well as loans from other museums. Van Dyck’s convincing evocation of his subject’s inner life as well as the outer made him the choice portraitist of many of the most important figures of the 17th Century. A “star” of this exhibit, “Portrait of Cardinal Guido Bentivoglio” has been borrowed from the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The staff of the Frick have humorously characterized Van Dyck’s era as one of “pre-selfies.” Following the museum visit, we will return to Bergen County for a full-course luncheon in an authentic Turkish Restaurant, Beyoglu Mediterranean Grill.
