ESTELLE GREENE NAMED VOLUNTEER OF THE CENTURYOn February 11th, over 50 members of NCJW BCS were thrilled to attend a 100th surprise birthday celebration for Estelle Greene at Lefkes Estiatorio in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Who is Estelle Greene and why the fuss? Estelle is an amazing woman, not just because she is a centenarian although that in itself is an accomplishment! Estelle has volunteered for decades, joining NCJW Teaneck Section when she and her husband moved to Fort Lee in the early sixties, serving as a leader in annual art shows that raised funds for NCJW. Her career in fashion led her to Council Thrift Shop when it began in Hackensack. When it moved to Teaneck and finally to its current store in Bergenfield, Estelle went right along with it. Estelle has served as Vice President of the Thrift Shop, At the birthday luncheon, Estelle was in her usual form: charming, gracious, elegant and touched to be surrounded by loving friends and colleagues. She was presented not only with a gift card and birthday cards with special notes and wishes and a plaque naming her as Volunteer of the Century, but also with a Resolution by the NJ Legislature outlining her life of volunteerism and honoring her many good deeds and a life dedicated to community service. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous gourmet lunch while cheering on the birthday girl. Special thanks go to Karen Kurland, NCJW BCS’s hostess with the mostest and party planner par excellence who arranged the birthday celebration for Estelle. Click photos to enlarge. |
