Project Higher Ground

NCJW’s National Campaign to End Domestic Violence by Strengthening the Economic Status of Women.

Project Higher Ground

Bridging Community Service, Education And Advocacy Is critical to ending domestic violence because financial security is not the first thing people think of when they hear the term domestic violence, higher ground will strive to help illuminate this aspect of partner violence.

Our section has been developing this initiative since summer, 2010 we have been proceeding carefully with a needs assessment by consulting with our Bergen county domestic violence service provider partners.

COURTHOUSE WAITING ROOM IS NOW OPEN

NCJWBCS is proud to announce the opening of The Waiting Room at the Bergen County Courthouse.  This is a separate, dedicated space, a safe haven for domestic violence victims awaiting court appearances.

In consultation with the Bergen Family Court and Judge Bonnie Mizdol as well as the Bergen County domestic violence service providers, the need and, indeed, the New Jersey state mandate for a separate waiting area was determined.

Our volunteers prepared the painting, flooring, and furnishing of the room and are providing volunteers to serve as a comforting and protective presence. Information about county social services is readily available on a TV loop and in brochures provided in the room.
