A NOURISHING DAY — FOR MIND AND BODYOn March 29, fifty NCJW BCS members traveled to the — click here: Frick Museum in NYC to view the exhibit “Van Dyck: The Anatomy of Portraiture.” This is the first major U.S. Museum exhibition of his work since 1990, and the Frick is its only venue. The exhibit’s roughly 100 works, gathered from all over the world, include tour-de-force paintings, oil sketches, intimate drawings and print likenesses that turned Anthony Van Dyck into a European celebrity in the 17th and 18th century. He is known for his wonderful portraits, skilled technique, and the ability to make the subject appear lifelike and interesting. As a Court painter, he excelled. Some of the paintings he did when he was only 14 years old were incredible to see. As we walked the galleries of the Frick, we marveled at the beauty of the mansion. Upon our return to Bergen County, our group enjoyed a relaxing lunch at Beyoglu Cafe, a wonderful Turkish restaurant in Cliffside Park. It was a nourishing day — for mind and body. |
